150 years down the line someone somewhere stumbles across this interview. What would you like them to know about you and what inspired you to start blogging?
I’ve always really lacked confidence, but at the same time really outgoing. I know that’s a bit of an oxymoron, but I struggled to talk to friends about fashion or give beauty advice because I thought people would laugh at me because I’m fat! The blog was a way to share my love of makeup and fashion and inspire others to be who they wanted to be. There’s a quote on the front page of my blog that says, “Stop worrying about how others see you. Just be yourself – fearlessly and unapologetically. When you start to embrace the real you, others will too” which is by Loni Albert. This is essentially what I wanted the blog to be!
If you could choose your age forever, what age would it be and why?
27! It’s the age I am right now and I’m so content with life I don’t think I want to get any older! Growing up I always said I was never getting married and that I was never going to have children. Now I have both and I wouldn’t want it any other way!
In an ideal world, what would be your blog working environment versus what the reality is?
I currently work full time so sometimes the blog takes a bit of a back seat! I’d love to be able to do it full time and give up the day job, but at the moment it’s just not possible. I’d have a nice little home office, a quiet space that was my own with inspiring quotes on the walls to remind me about why I blog and to keep striving!
To date, what has been your favourite blog post and why?
http://theplussizeoflife.com/mdina-silent-city I loved my recent post on Mdina in Malta. I loved blogging about something different and it gave me a chance to share some of the images I took whilst on holiday. I’m quite rubbish and tend to just enjoy these sorts of things in life rather than document them but I really loved walking the streets and just taking photos! I hope to do more posts like this in the future! It actually made me regret not blogging about some of the other places I’ve travelled since I started The Plus Size of Life.
How would you describe your personal style?
This is a HARD one! I don’t really wear trousers (literally I own like 3 pairs of jeans) or dress down. I have to always make sure I’ve made an effort, otherwise I just feel rubbish all day! I like alternative fashion but at the same time I really do like to keep up with the latest trends and if it’s not available in plus sizes, I try to replicate! I guess I’m a girly girl with an alternative edge!
Show us your favourite picture of yourself and why?
I felt so content in this photo, I was on honeymoon and I really felt content in myself for the first time in a long time. I had gotten married as a strong and confident plus size woman and then wore exactly what I wanted on my honeymoon without being bothered by what people thought about how I looked! I tried different things on this holiday too, I wore a maxi dress for the first time among other things and I came home feeling so empowered!
What has been the biggest change in your life since you started blogging?
I think it definitely has to be how I shop for clothes. Now I consider wearing things I wouldn’t have dreamed of before. If I like it I wear it and that’s it and I hardly give a second thought on what others think of me for it.
What is the single most important thing you’d like people to take away from reading your blog?
Just be YOU! No matter what anyone else thinks, share the things you love with others and enjoy every minute of life!
What is your favourite ice cream flavour? Mint Choc Chip
If money were no object, where in the world would you go on holiday? Thailand, I love it so much!
What’s your favourite season? Winter
Would you rather be a giant rodent or a tiny elephant? Tiny elephant!
Last film you watched? Goodfellas!
Do you have a nickname and if yes, what is it? Nope!
If you had your human body, but the head of an animal, what animal would it be? Panda
What do you usually eat for breakfast? I don’t eat breakfast but I do get a Starbucks venti latte, SF vanilla syrup with an extra shot every morning on the way to work!
Who would play you in the movie of your life story? Geez, no idea, but they would have to have my yorkshire accent spot on!
Most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done? I always plan on being spontaneous …… haha
