Blogger Spotlight…Curves n Curls

Curves n Curls Blogger Spotlight

This week sees our #PSBloggerBabes spotlight on the formidable Hayley Stewart from Curves n Curls…

150 years down the line someone somewhere stumbles across this interview. What would you like them to know about you and what inspired you to start blogging?

Wow, that’s a tough one right out the gate Kelly! Um, well why I started blogging is easy – I had this burgeoning sense of self confidence and worth. I was developing a relationship with my body for the first time in my life, and I wanted to share that journey with other women. In the hope that it would inspire them in the way other blogs had inspired me. And I wanted to help generate more content of fat women looking fabulous in great clothes. I wanted people to see themselves in my body – because there are just not enough representations of different bodies in the media.

And as for what I would like them to know about me… Um… I can’t stand carrots, but I love carrot cake.

If you could choose your age forever, what age would it be and why?

I would choose my university years – they were care free in many ways, and I was learning so much about myself and others, and the world. But I would like to take some of the wisdom that I learnt in my 30s with me. It would be even better if back then I had learned to love my body.

In an ideal world, what would be your blog working environment versus what the reality is?

I would have a desk, and would be all organised and sit down and write a post in one sitting. Instead of typing half of it on my phone on the way home from work, and the rest sitting in my bed watching Netflix. I would just like to be more focused!

To date, what has been your favourite blog post and why?

I am really pleased to say that I struggled with this question. It’s nice to know there are a couple I am really proud of. But the hardest to write and the most important is one on my evolving relationship with my body.

How would you describe your personal style?

Ugh, I never know how to answer this question. I’m inspired by vintage styling and pinup girls, bohemian queens, whimsical literary characters, and all the brightest crayons in the box. And I can NEVER resist a pretty frock …

Show us your favourite picture of yourself and why?

This picture me at my most brave. My most fearless. It inspires me to find the beauty in my body and celebrate it. And I hope it has that effect on others too.

What has been the biggest change in your life since you started blogging?

I take a hell of a lot more selfies. I have added some absolutely wonderful friends, some best friends, to my life. And I can honestly say the whole experience has really and truly made me more body confident and body positive. Which was kinda the point.

What is the single most important thing you’d like people to take away from reading your blog?

I want them to feel they can. They can wear what they want. Can love their bodies. Resist body shaming and call it out when they see it. They can work on healing the wounds society and they themselves have inflicted on their bodies.

Now for our quick fire ten…

What is your favourite ice cream flavour? Salted caramel.
If money were no object, where in the world would you go on holiday? Hawaii. Tomorrow.
What’s your favourite season? Autumn.
Would you rather be a giant rodent or a tiny elephant? Tiny elephant.
Last film you watched? Interview with a Vampire (again, it’s currently on Amazon Prime).
Do you have a nickname and if yes, what is it? My family calls me snails. Because it rhymes with Hails, and I’m slow (especially in the morning).
If you had your human body, but the head of an animal, what animal would it be? A lion – I already have a mane.
What do you usually eat for breakfast? Those breakfast biscuit things. I am bad at breakfast.
Who would play you in the movie of your life story? A fat Julia Roberts?
Most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done? Going to a full moon party in Koh Phangan on a whim when I was in Thailand. It was New Year and is one of the most fun things I have ever done. We had not planned it before hand. We just island hopped until we got there, and it was epic. (You can read about it on a now no longer updated early Hayley blog – https://city-gypsy.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/when-was-last-time-you-said-i-was-there.html )
